How Will Passengers Travel in the Year 2070?

What do you think travel will be like in 2070? The Future of Travel report, prepared by academics in collaboration with EasyJet, provides us with the answer to this question. We would like to highlight some interesting predictions from the report.

Here is a compilation of their predictions for you:

Breath-Taking New Locations

According to experts’ predictions, within the next 30-50 years, travel beyond the Earth for tourism purposes will be possible. The days when you have breakfast on the moon with tea and simit (a type of Turkish pastry) may not be too far away. 🙂

As technology advances, people will adapt to different environments more quickly, and even inhospitable areas will be visited for tourism. This means that many new locations, ranging from underwater hotels in the ocean to hotels built on top of mountains, will be opened up for tourism. On the other hand, for an interesting travel experience, you may not need to leave the Earth or your location, as you will be able to travel to ancient Rome or see dinosaurs using virtual reality technology.

Easy and Fast Travel Experiences

Although travel by airplanes is already fast, the pre-flight and post-flight processes can be tedious. The long and cumbersome transportation to airports negatively affects the experience. In the future, the solution to this transportation problem will be autonomous, electric, and flying vehicles. Traffic issues will no longer exist with flying taxis. Let us also mention that as of the date you are reading this, approximately 250 companies are working to produce short-distance air taxis.

You arrive at the airport with your flying taxi. Will you have to wait in line for passport control? Of course not, in 2070, there won’t be passport control or long queues. Biometric data will become a standard worldwide in the future, expediting the passage. Systems working in the background will recognize your face, retina, and perhaps even your heartbeat without you realizing it. Airports will match you with your flight as soon as you enter the gate and send notifications to your devices about where you need to go.

Baggage-Free Travel

In the future, baggage issues will be completely eliminated. How? By not carrying any baggage 🙂. When you arrive at your destination, 3D-printed clothes tailored to your body measurements will be ready for you. At the end of your journey, these clothes can be recycled and printed as clothes again based on demand.

Personalized Travel Experiences

Personalized flights tailored to your habits and preferences will become important in the future. Airlines will use seats that can be adjusted specifically to your body instead of standard seats. As new and more durable materials are invented, seats that are more suitable and secure for the passenger’s physique will be developed. Personalized temperature settings will be possible. Another aspect of personalization will be in the in-flight catering. Technologies that can produce simple foods with 3D printers already exist today. With further advancements, you will be able to produce and enjoy the food you desire during your journey.

Autonomous Hotel Services

You have reached your desired destination for travel, and now it’s time to consider your accommodation. Your travel provider will offer autonomous vehicles to take you from the airport to the hotel. With the signals from the vehicle, the hotel staff will be aware of your arrival before you even get there. You will encounter a room that is tailored to your taste in the hotel, meaning personalization will be possible in various aspects, from the color of the walls to the room’s decor, from the music that welcomes you when you open the door to the scent of the room. Furthermore, rooms will be constructed in a more dynamic manner, offering more flexible room sizes with movable walls and divisible spaces.

Through virtual assistants in the rooms, you will be able to place food orders or make reservations for activities just by speaking within your room. Hotel meals will also offer a wide range of options using 3D printers, similar to the aviation sector.

Advancements in Green Energy

With new developments and the production of stronger materials, zero-carbon emission flights will be possible in 2070. Aircraft powered by hydrogen will be used for flights. Energy generation from human weight will be achieved using smart panels. With electric cars that utilize green energy and flying taxis equipped with electronic vertical takeoff and landing systems, urban carbon emissions will be minimized.
