We Know You Through Your EarSeptember 2019
How do you prefer to unlock your phone? Finger print? Face ID? Now there’s another way to unlock the phone, your ear.
Zhanpeng Jin, a computer scientist at Buffalo University, found that the ear canal created a special signature based on how the sounds were echoed and absorbed.
Jin and his team produced an in-ear headphone prototype with a microphone. So how does this work? The sound is reflected and absorbed by the ear canal when it comes to the person’s ear. This creates a unique signature that can be recorded by the microphone. The signals from the microphone are sent to a smartphone connected via bluetooth and the person can easily unlock the phone.
