We have carried out the project “Accessible Translation” together with Nevisoft of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Technopark, in order to improve hearing-impaired passengers experience on our website. The purpose of the project is to translate the textual contents of all digital media into the language that can be understood by the hearing impaired guests. We started the development process of this project from the Frequently Asked Questions page on our website.
So how does this work? For aviation-specific and frequently used words, videos taken one by one are kept in the database. For example, “excess, baggage, to be, pay” words are extracted from the question “How much do I pay if I have excess baggage?” via NLP methods and each word is displayed to the user by combining specific videos of those words into one sentence. Thus, there will be no need for recording new videos for new questions/answers in the future.
